Import MBOX Files to Mozilla Thunderbird- Full Solution
Hi, I'm Anjali Aggarwal. I am here to provide a single solution for opening Google Takeout MBOX data in Thunderbird. This method is best if you have a small number of MBOX files.
Step 1: Install Thunderbird
- Install Mozilla Thunderbird after downloading it.
Step 2: Install ImportExportTools NG Add-on
- The ImportExportTools NG extension is required since Thunderbird does not support .mbox imports by default.
- Launch Thunderbird.
- In the upper-right corner, click the menu icon (☰).
- Choose themes and add-ons.
- Search for ImportExportTools NG in the bar.
- After selecting Add to Thunderbird, select Install.
- Restart Thunderbird.
Step 3: Create Local Folder
- In Thunderbird, go to the left sidebar.
- Right-click on Local Folders > Select New Folder.
- Name the folder or click Create Folder.
Step 4: Import the .mbox File
- Right-click on the new folder (or any existing folder under "Local Folders").
- Select ImportExportTools NG > Import mbox file.
- Choose "Import directly one or more mbox files" and click OK.
- Browse to your .mbox file from Google Takeout and select it.
- Click Open to start the import.
Step 5: View Imported Emails
Once imported, all your emails will appear in the selected folder inside Thunderbird.
This method can be lengthy and time-consuming. If you want to import 60 GB of Google Takeout data into Thunderbird, then try the software solution. Many software companies provide multiple solutions. I suggest you use the BLR MBOX Converter, SysTools, Softaken, CubexSoft, or Recovery Fix Software solution to import any size MBOX files to Thunderbird. I hope this solved your problem.
